Set in Highlands, North Carolina, Old Edwards is less one self-contained resort than a collection of accommodations, restaurants and amenities woven throughout the mountain town. There’s an almost European quality to the experience, with charming buildings tucked throughout the village and a stroll into town for dinner feeling like part of the vacation rather than an excursion.
I spent two nights there in October, when Highlands was fully embracing fall: pumpkins outside storefronts, changing leaves, misty mornings and hot apple cider. Honestly, if a Hallmark movie needed a mountain-town location, I’d nominate Highlands without hesitation.
Between wandering Main Street, eating lunch beside a stream, visiting nearby Dry Falls and returning to a fireplace and soaking tub in our suite, the trip delivered exactly the kind of cozy mountain luxury I hadn’t realized I was craving.
