Rooftop Sunsets and Retro Vibes: Why the Kimpton Shorebreak Is My Go-To Fort Lauderdale Hotel

Fort Lauderdale is one of my favorite destinations, especially when I'm looking for a fun and relaxing long weekend away. I'm talking gorgeous beaches, top-notch restaurants and lively nightlife. Plus, it's impossible to be in a bad mood there with the sunny weather.

But now, after staying at the Kimpton Shorebreak Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort twice in the last year-and-a-half, it's safe to say I've found my favorite Fort Lauderdale hotel. The Kimpton Shorebreak serves retro vibes, has a top-notch rooftop pool (complete with cocktails and sunset views) and delivers all the comforts I've grown to know and love with Kimptons. Oh, and it's just two blocks from the beach.

The Shorebreak rooms are super stylish and comfortable with a retro/throwback vibe. During my first visit, there was more than enough space for my partner and I to spread out, with a big comfy bed, couch seating area and a desk area for working or eating. And then on my second visit, we shared a room with two of our friends—and we didn't feel cramped at all. There was plenty of floor space (and, more importantly, closet space) to go around.

Everything about the decor was adorable (especially the light blue retro mini fridge), with a nostalgic '50s Florida vibe. My friend kept saying, "It's so cute here." But there were also all the modern comforts I've come to expect from a Kimpton, including a Bluetooth speaker, yoga mats and a pre-packed beach bag so I could grab and go when I wanted to walk the two short blocks to the water.

Another plus? The bathroom was massive, with a sleek and sexy shower (perfect for unwinding with a hot—or cold—rinse after an active day of sipping and shopping).

The Shorebreak offers two delicious dining options. The first—La Fuga, just feet off of the lobby—is a must-visit. The Italian cuisine is top notch and the ambiance is elevated and romantic, making it a prime spot for a date night. (My partner and I had a lovely date at La Fuga during our first trip to Shorebreak.)

La Fuga offers indoor and outdoor poolside dining. I also recommend popping in for a craft cocktail at the bar (the bartenders are super friendly and quite skilled) or the rosé all-day special on Sundays.

The other dining option? The aforementioned rooftop bar and restaurant, Escape.

Escape was definitely my favorite part of the Kimpton Shorebreak. The rooftop offers unbelievable views of downtown Fort Lauderdale—and the sunset. My friends were super impressed when I introduced them to this hidden gem. And we were sure to grab a few photos (with cocktails in hand).

Guests can pop up to enjoy the rooftop pool (yes, Shorebreak features two separate pools), sip on a cocktail, lounge in the comfy couch areas or grab a tasty bite. My friends and I escaped the Florida sun by sitting under a giant umbrella in our large cushioned loungers and taking periodic dips in the gorgeous pool.

There's even a daily sunset drink special in the 30 minutes leading up to sunset and in the 30 minutes after (we popped by during both days of our visit). And on Fridays and Saturdays, there's a live DJ to enjoy during the late afternoon and early evening.

First of all, the customer service is incredible at the Shorebreak. The front desk was super helpful (storing our bags when needed and helping to facilitate an early check-in and a late check-out). I was even greeted by a lovely note and a delicious dessert plate in my room—talk about top notch treatment!

In addition to the drink and food options, the hotel features adorable outdoor seating in one of its many courtyards. These are perfect for lounging, reading a book or playing a game of cards with the fam.

As I mentioned, there are two pools for relaxing or cooling off. There's also a fitness center (which I had every intention of using, but of course did not) and complimentary bikes if you want to go for a ride around town.

Guests can even request a plant to be placed in their room as part of the Kimpton Plant Pals Program.

Next time I'm in Fort Lauderdale, I know I'll be staying at the Kimpton Shorebreak again (and taking in those stellar sunset views, with a cocktail).
