And don't skip out on Pages in Paradise...

It's hard to believe it's already been a year since my partner and I tied the knot in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. And in celebration of the major milestone, we decided to pack our enormous suitcase and return to the scene of the crime nuptials.

For our one-year anniversary, we flew to Puerto Vallarta and took a scenic 45-minute drive north to the gorgeous Dreams® Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort—a destination that's super easy to book through Apple Vacations. That's where we spent three incredible nights relaxing, soaking up the sun and eating very, very well.

Here, why the Dreams Bahia Mita is the perfect destination for a romantic and restful getaway.

The Relaxation

While staying on the Dreams Bahia Mita property, my husband and I spent plenty of our time on the adults-only Secrets Bahia Mita side. Secrets Bahia Mita adjoins (and shares some amenities with) the family-friendly Dreams Bahia Mita. And what is great is that Secrets guests can enjoy the fun facilities on the Dreams side, but still escape to the child-free pools, loungers, bars and relaxation areas on the Secrets side. Oh, and believe me when I say "all-inclusive" is the way to go for a vacation like this.

Relaxation is an easy option here, whether it be in a beachfront lounge chair or soaking in the adults-only pool. But don't worry, things don't get boring. A daily afternoon DJ keeps things lively and entertaining before it's time to reset for the evening.

My favorite relaxation spot in all of Dreams Bahia Mita? The incredible Sky Bar, a rooftop open-air lounge available to Preferred Club members.

Sky Bar is great—and it's great motivation to become a Preferred Club member yourself. The area features fabulous views of the water and feels quite VIP. There are plunge pools and hot tubs to soak in, comfy chairs (with umbrellas) galore and friendly bartenders and cocktail servers (more on them in a minute).

Allow me to recommend upgrading your Sky Bar experience with a cabana. My partner and I rented a cabana two days in a row—and it was the best decision we made all trip. The cabana is very comfortable (I found myself drifting off more than once) and features extremely attentive service from the top-notch Sky Bar servers. Mario, Dario and Julio took great care of us, delivering delicious cocktails, tasty bites and friendly banter throughout the sunny days.

They even surprised us with a Happy Anniversary banner and flower petals on our cabana bed when we arrived, a complimentary bottle of bubbly and a yummy dessert plate. Fabulous service indeed.

The great service also continued to the restaurants...

The Restaurants

The benefit of doing an all-inclusive vacay? You don't have to worry about food and drink at all. You simply show up and enjoy. There are a number of chic, satisfying dining options in both the Dreams Bahia Mita and Secrets Bahia Mita areas.

Allow me to recommend breakfast at Market Cafe, where you can enjoy a tasty crepe and a mimosa (ask for an outdoor table!) and the Mediterranean restaurant Olio for lunch, where you can take in stunning views while you dine. For dinner, take a short golf cart ride over to Nebbiolo for stellar Italian dishes with a great glass of wine.

Post-dinner, in addition to taking in some of the live entertainment in the courtyard, grab a drink in Desires, which is billed as a sports bar, but which provides an ideal space to unwind even for the not-so-sports-inclined.

The Reading

Another great perk of the Dreams Bahia Mita that both my husband and I enjoyed? Borrowing a book from the resort's Pages in Paradise program, a collaboration between Apple Vacations, Penguin Random House and Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss's Belletrist Book Club.

If, like me, you're already on vacation on the property, you can enjoy a book courtesy of several mini libraries placed throughout (I browsed at the coffee shop library, but ultimately settled on a novel from the Sky Bar location). This is a lovely perk if, also like me, you hate lugging a giant book with you in your carry-on.

But if you're super into the whole reading-on-vacation thing, Pages in Paradise also offers book-club-focused trips. These can even include discounts based on the size of your group.

The on-site books really were a nice value add for me, and I loved thumbing through my book while sipping Champagne in my cabana.

Ramses the Butler

As if all of the Dreams Bahia Mita amenities weren't enough, our on-property butler, Ramses, helped make our stay extra special. He and his team were reachable throughout our trip via WhatsApp, providing the ultimate in VIP treatment. When we wanted a dinner reservation? Ramses was on it. When we wanted a bottle of wine in our room? Ramses was on it. When it was time to call a car to the airport? Again, Ramses. He was a great example of the wonderful service you can expect throughout your stay.

In case you couldn't tell from my gushing, my husband and I had a fabulous stay at Dreams Bahia Mita. It was a memorable, romantic and relaxing anniversary trip. And I can't wait to go back.
