Some nights you sleep like a rock and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day. Last night was not one of those nights. After tossing and turning, you woke up feeling totally drained. Whether you regale your co-workers with your corniest knock-knock joke or watch a favorite YouTube video, the point is to make yourself laugh.
Why? Studies (like this one from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln) suggest that laughing can help you stay awake. And according to Baum, laughing also “lowers the stress hormone cortisol, which has been shown to zap energy and increase negativity.”
