This just in: Val Kilmer is (re)teaming up with Tom Cruise for the all-new Top Gun sequel.
Paramount just confirmed that Kilmer will reprise his character in the highly anticipated sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. In the original film, the actor played Tom “Iceman” Kazanasky, a fighter pilot who starts off as Maverick’s (Cruise) rival before becoming his friend.
The announcement comes one week after Cruise posted a photo on Instagram to kick off the first day of filming. Nevertheless, Kilmer’s involvement should come as no surprise to dedicated fans, considering the actor hinted at his return during a Q&A on Reddit in April 2017. He wrote, “Hell yes. What a hoot it will be…”
A hoot, indeed. Top Gun: Maverick will hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
