Are Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya channeling Dune? Or are they just trying to put us on to a new fashion trend?
On Tuesday, the duo appeared at CinemaCon 2023 wearing highly contrasting versions of the same garment: the vest.

Zendaya, 26, wore a Louis Vuitton waistcoat-style vest and statement dress pants, which sounds standard on paper until you realize that the vest was entirely backless and the pants were a wide-leg silhouette that fell somewhere between barrel and balloon. She rounded out her outfit with white heels, gold hoops and a bouncy ’90s lob.

Meanwhile, Chalamet, 27, looked as though he had traveled to the event by motorcycle in a full Helmut Lang ensemble. He paired a black leather vest with a white T-shirt, form-fitting leather motorcycle pants (with kneepads, natch) and sleek black boots.
The two looks were completely different…and yet we could totally imagine both as desert-ready Arrakis attire. (OK, maybe not the backless vest. But the leather lewk was very stillsuit adjacent.)
Zendaya and Chalamet were in attendance to promote Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune: Part Two, the second half of Villeneuve’s adaptation of the 1965 sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert. It currently has a theatrical release of November 3, 2023.
