This Just In: ‘This Is Us’ Is Officially Ending After Season 6

this is us ending season 6

Just because Milo Ventimiglia has previously hinted that This Is Us is ending after six seasons doesn’t mean we’re in any way prepared for this heartbreaking news.

Variety just confirmed that This Is Us will come to an end after the upcoming sixth season. Although the fifth installment is currently airing on NBC, the final season is expected to begin production this summer to premiere later this year.

To be completely honest, we’re not very surprised by the announcement. First of all, series creator Dan Fogelman has said from the start that This Is Us would likely end after six seasons.

Ventimiglia previously addressed the rumors during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, saying, “We never know what’s going to happen. The show could have a huge spike in season six and everybody wants more beyond that. But I think creatively they have an idea of what they’d like to do to kind of wrap it up in this nice story.”

Showrunner Isaac Aptaker confirmed this statement back in 2019, explaining, “We’ve had this end in mind for a long time, so we’re able to plan for it and try to make it feel like it’s a whole, as opposed to a series that’s going to go endlessly.”

Leave it to This Is Us to make us ugly cry without warning.
