Sterling K. Brown Explains Why the ‘This Is Us’ Cast Isn’t Attending the Emmys

Sterling K. Brown (Randall Pearson) already confirmed that he received an invite to attend the 2021 Emmy Awards alongside his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe. However, the 45-year-old actor warned that his This Is Us co-stars weren’t so lucky.

Brown recently sat down for an exclusive interview with PureWow, where he shared details about his passion project with Survivorship Today. While discussing his two Emmy nominations, the This Is Us star admitted that his co-stars didn’t receive an invite to the 73rd annual ceremony, even though the NBC show is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series.

“The unfortunate part is—even though the show got nominated, as well—the producers might get a chance to come, but the cast does not get to come,” he told PureWow.

Brown explained that individual nominees are allowed to attend with a plus-one. (He will be honored for Outstanding Narrator for Lincoln: Divided We Stand and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for This Is Us.) But due to strict COVID-19 restrictions, the guest list won’t include people like Mandy Moore, who didn’t receive an Outstanding Actress nomination. The only exception will be Chris Sullivan (Toby Damon), who was included in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.

“We’ll kick it together and represent for the whole crew,” Brown added. “He’s such a big, beautiful man with a very singular sense of style in a way that only he can pull off, so I will play wing man to his peacocking.”

Hey, we’ll take what we can get.
