Taylor Swift Says ‘Reputation’ Was Inspired by ‘GoT’ & It All Makes Sense Now

It’s been almost two years since Taylor Swift released her sixth studio album, Reputation. And while we originally thought that it was written about all the boys who’ve wronged her, the 29-year-old singer just revealed that it was shaped by the one and only Game of Thrones.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Swift admitted that Reputation came to fruition after binge-watching the HBO series.

“So much of my imagination was spent on Game of Thrones,” she said. “At the time, I was making Reputation, and I didn’t talk about it in interviews, so I didn’t reveal that a lot of the songs were influenced by the show.”

In fact, the singer’s first hit single, “Look What You Made Me Do,” was inspired by Arya Stark’s (Maisie Williams) kill list. “These songs were half based on what I was going through—but seeing them through a Game of Thrones filter,” she said.

“LWYMMD” wasn’t the only song inspired by Arya’s dark side. Swift also revealed that she wrote “‘I Did Something Bad’ after Arya and Sansa conspired to kill the devious Littlefinger. That and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ are very Cersei vibes, too. Daenerys as well.”

She went on to say that “King of My Heart” is not only a subtle tribute to the Night King (Vladimir Furdik), but it also sums up Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) and Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) relationship.

“It’s even got this post-hook of drums—I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums,” she continued.

If you need us, we’ll be re-listening to the entire Reputation album.
