It's a fashion statement

Sarah Jessica Parker is taking a page out of Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion handbook.

This week, the Sex and the City star, 58, attended the New York City Ballet’s 2023 Fall Fashion Gala at Lincoln Center. Parker wore a Carrie-approved outfit to the event, which included a tutu dress by Carolina Herrerra and—drumroll, please—mismatched shoes.

That’s right, Parker paired her ballerina-inspired dress with two different stilettos. The And Just Like That actress wore the same shoe style, featuring a simple toe strap adorned with a flashy pendant, but they weren’t the same color. She rocked a shimmery nude heel on her right foot and an all-black shoe on her left foot.

You should know that Parker’s mismatched heels were completely intentional. In fact, the move was likely inspired by an episode of Sex and the City, titled “Escape from New York,” where Carrie wears two different heels during a trip to L.A.

At the time, Parker addressed the situation shoe-tuation on Instagram by commenting on a fan-made post by @everyoutfitonsatc. The actress explained that she and the show’s stylist, Patricia Field, couldn’t decide which heel looked better, so they opted for both.

“We had 2 pairs of what I believe are @louboutinworld scrappy [sic] sandals,” SJP wrote. “Pat and I chose to do 1 of each. Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing 1 of each. Sending my best. And hope this is a satisfactory answer. Xxx.”

Next time we accidentally leave the house wearing two different shoes, we’re blaming Carrie Bradshaw.
