Queen Elizabeth is wasting no time getting ready for the holidays. Windsor Castle is already decked out with Christmas decorations and Her Majesty is giving fans a sneak peek.
On Friday, the 95-year-old monarch shared a snap of her 20-foot Christmas tree on the official royal family Instagram account. In the image, we see palace staff adding ornaments to the massive tree, which is displayed in St. George’s Hall.
“The finishing touches are made to the 20-foot Christmas tree in St George’s Hall, Windsor Castle as part of the Royal Collection's annual Christmas display,” the caption read. Per People, the tree was taken from Windsor Great Park—where it is believed that Windsor Christmas trees have been sourced since the reign of Queen Victoria.
Per the post, this year’s exhibition also includes a special display of costumes worn by the queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and Princess Margaret when they performed Pantomimes at the Castle between 1941 and 1944. The costumes will be displayed in the Waterloo Chamber, where the pantomimes were originally performed 80 years ago.
The queen and her family members aren’t the only ones who will be enjoying the holiday decor and clothing exhibition. Lucky visitors can see the castle's holiday decorations firsthand now through January 3.
While Elizabeth and her family traditionally spend the holiday at her Norfolk home, Sandringham estate, last year, the queen and Prince Philip opted to continue self-isolating at Windsor. While nothing is confirmed, it’s possible the queen chooses to do the same this year.
Looks like Christmas came early.
