Princess Elisabeth of Belgium just threw an 18th birthday bash that could practically double as an episode of My Super Sweet Sixteen.
Over the weekend, the royal celebrated her 18th trip around the sun with a majestic birthday party at the Royal Palace in Brussels. According to People magazine, the event was attended by relatives, politicians and 80 teenagers who were all born in 2001, just like Princess Elisabeth.
The princess donned a chic white dress, which featured a collar, long sleeves and belted waist. She wore her blond hair in a half-up, half-down style.
During the party, guests enjoyed a performance by the Antwerp Royal Ballet School. The birthday girl even gave a speech, in which she admitted that she still has a long way to go before taking over the throne.
“These 18 years have been filled with many rewarding moments that have made me the person I am today,” she said, as the outlet reports. “I realize that I still have a lot to learn. I will also focus on that in the coming years: trying to understand the world better—and helping to improve it, by giving the best of myself.”
Princess Elisabeth is currently studying at UWC Atlantic College in Wales. Her 18th birthday is a big deal for the royal family, since she’s now technically old enough to rule the country. In fact, the royal will automatically inherit the throne when her parents—King Philippe and Queen Mathilde—step down.
