In case you missed it, there was a very royal birthday last week. Yep, Princess Anne officially turned 75 and Buckingham Palace made sure to celebrate the milestone in style. Over the course of the week, they shared a series of tributes, including a delightful 75 Facts About Princess Anne post and (of course) some gorgeous new portraits.

Recent royal images featured Princess Anne walking alongside her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, while wearing an absolutely dazzling accessory: a diamond tiara worth a reported $4 million.

One such pic was taken at the Windsor Castle banquet held in honor of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte during their July state visit. And yes, that sparkling headpiece is the Diamond Festoon Tiara—a piece with both history and serious value.

Maxwell Stone, a jewelry expert at UK retailer Steven Stone, shared some fascinating background, explaining, “The Diamond Festoon Tiara was presented to Princess Anne in 1973 by the World Wide Shipping Group of Hong Kong, in recognition of her role in christening one of their ships. Believed to date back to the early 20th century, it carries not only exquisite craftsmanship but also a rich sense of history.”

Princess Anne first debuted the tiara in portraits for her 23rd birthday and pre-wedding photos with her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips. Since then, she’s worn it at countless high-profile events, including Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee Gala and multiple state banquets.

As for the design? Stone describes it as having “delicate openwork, graceful festoon-style diamond swags and pendants, and a perfectly balanced silhouette.” And adds, “While placing a monetary value on such a rare and historically significant jewel is challenging, I’d estimate the tiara’s worth to be in the region of $4 million.”

Honestly, if there were an award for best birthday tiara, Princess Anne would have it in the bag.
