There’s no denying Prince William has made the navy suit his signature look. Whether it’s a royal engagement, state dinner or official visit, the man knows his way around deep blue tailoring. But every now and then, he shakes things up—and Monday was one of those rare (and stylish) occasions.

On June 30, the Prince of Wales made a surprise visit to the England women’s soccer team, affectionately known as the Lionesses, ahead of their Euro 2025 tournament. As patron of The Football Association, William stopped by St. George’s Park to chat with the players, coaches and families, wishing them luck as they gear up to face France on July 5 in their first match. While the visit itself looked cheerful, it was his outfit that had me doing a double take.

Instead of his usual navy-on-navy ensemble, William opted for a sharp light gray blazer paired with classic black trousers and brown shoes. He did stay loyal to his blue roots, though, with a crisp pale blue shirt underneath.

Kensington Palace shared a carousel of photos from the unannounced visit on Instagram, writing, “An inspiring visit to St. George’s Park ahead of the Women’s Euros. Great to see the Lionesses inspiring more women and girls to get into soccer through the Made for This Game campaign before lending a hand with the Euros shirt printing. Sarina, the staff and the Lionesses are ready!”

Prince William’s love for soccer is well documented—and clearly something he’s passed down to his kids. Princess Charlotte, in particular, is a fan. Back in 2023, she joined her dad in a sweet video message cheering on the Lionesses during the Women’s World Cup.

“We’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved,” William said. “So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”

And Charlotte’s adorable sign-off? “Good luck. I hope you win!”
