It was worth it

Prince William is following in King Charles’s footsteps as a rule-breaker

The Prince of Wales, 42, recently traveled to Dorset to celebrate a new housing project in southern England. While greeting the sea of well-wishers, Prince William met a college student who asked for a hug. The royal obliged, even though it’s against protocol to embrace members of the public.

“Go on, give me a hug,” Prince William said (according to the Daily Mail).

The royal immediately went into full-blown dad mode and encouraged her to get back to class, adding, “So nice to see you but you’ve got some lessons to go to now. I’m going to get you in trouble for keeping you out of your lessons now. You’ve got a free period now? When’s lunch break?”

Of course, Prince William won’t get in trouble for offering a hug to someone in need. However, royals are typically discouraged from embracing or hugging people during official outings. They’re supposed to maintain a professional demeanor because, after all, they are working.

Still, this isn’t the first time that a royal has hugged a member of the public. Prince William is following in the footsteps of his dad, King Charles, who has broken protocol on a few occasions. Last year, the monarch hosted the British rugby team the Black Ferns at Buckingham Palace.

When a member of the team asked King Charles for a hug, the royal went in for a group embrace. The best part? The whole thing was captured on video.

I love these wholesome moments.
