It’s been a few months since Prince Harry stepped away from his role as founder and patron of his beloved Sentebale charity, and now, after an investigation by the U.K.’s Charity Commission, the saga has finally reached a conclusion—and Harry is speaking out.

For context, Sentebale was co-founded nearly two decades ago by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, with the goal of supporting children and young people affected by HIV in Southern Africa. Back in March, Harry announced he was stepping down amid a public fallout with the charity’s current chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. This led to an investigation into claims of bullying, harassment and other alleged mismanagement within the organization.

On August 5, the Charity Commission for England and Wales released its findings and the results are pretty clear: there was no evidence of “widespread or systemic bullying, harassment, misogyny or misogynoir” at Sentebale. They also found no “overreach” by either Dr. Chandauka or Harry. Essentially, the Commission cleared Harry of any wrongdoing.

That said, the report didn’t pull any punches when it came to criticizing how things played out publicly. The Commission noted that poor internal governance and failure to resolve disputes internally hurt the charity’s reputation and risked undermining public trust in nonprofits more broadly. In other words, airing the drama in public wasn’t great for anyone—especially the kids who rely on Sentebale’s programs.

A spokesperson for Harry responded to the findings, emphasizing that while the investigation vindicates him, the real victims are the children who depend on Sentebale.

“Despite all that, their report falls troublingly short in many regards, primarily the fact that the consequences of the current Chair’s actions will not be borne by her — but by the children who rely on Sentebale’s support,” the spokesperson said, per People.

As a reminder, tensions escalated after Dr. Chandauka, who joined the charity in July 2023, was reportedly asked to resign but instead responded with a lawsuit against Sentebale. Sources suggest the conflict had roots in financial strain during her tenure, ultimately leading the entire board of trustees, alongside Harry, to resign in protest.
