Since stepping back from royal duties, Prince Harry has found himself at the center of quite a few headlines when it comes to his relationship with his estranged family. Bbetween his explosive memoir Spare, his candid interviews and his legal battles over personal security in the U.K., it’s been a turbulent few years for the Duke of Sussex. But now, it seems Harry may be ready to extend an olive branch.

According a new report, Prince Harry is planning to invite his family—yes, including King Charles and Prince William—to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. The event, which Harry founded in 2014 to support wounded and injured servicemen and women, is set for July of that year, and insiders say he’s hoping it could be a step toward reconciliation.

Apparently, per the report, Harry will send an email invitation to Buckingham Palace in the coming weeks, with formal invites to follow closer to the event. One source told the Daily Mail. “Harry has agreed that Invictus should extend an invitation to his family. The Royals have always been hugely supportive of Invictus and proud of what Harry has achieved in that arena. This is one olive branch from him that might be reciprocated.”

That said, there’s a scheduling wrinkle as the Games are set to wrap up on July 17, which happens to be Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday. Whether that timing complicates the royals' decision to attend remains to be seen.

Harry got real about where things stand with his family during a May interview with the BBC. “I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said. “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”

He also acknowledged that Spare—and the fallout from it—has left scars. “Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things,” he shared.

Time will tell if this latest gesture helps mend what’s been years of royal tension.
