Why Harry & Meghan Are Ready to Move on from the Monarchy, According to Omid Scobie

The royal expert appeared on the newest episode of Royally Obsessed, where he chatted with podcast co-hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie about Markle and Prince Harry’s new life in California. Scobie revealed that the duchess’s most recent appearances confirm that she’s finally ready to move on from the royal family. 

“From everyone I’ve spoken to in their orbit, it felt like they were both really keen to just move on beyond that period of time,” he said. “And I think certainly, in Meghan’s case, haven’t we already seen that happening over the past year?”

Scobie went on to discuss Markle’s absence at King Charles’s coronation. “I know that her team said that Archie’s birthday was a reason that she didn’t come to the coronation, but it only took a few conversations with people around her to kind of get an understanding that there was more to it than that,” he explained. “This was also someone that just didn't want to get dragged back into the hoopla and hysteria that comes every time she sets foot in the country or near the royal family.”

Scobie continued, “The experiences that they went through, just in those few weeks around the queen’s death, were a reminder to them that they had made the right decision in stepping away.”

It has taken some time, but the author admitted that Markle has been settling into her new life in Montecito. “Their life of full autonomy over here in California seems to be working out really well for them,” Scobie said. “Just seeing her on a red carpet at a Hollywood event around like-minded people in her own industry, she’s achieved a lot.”
