The Hidden Meaning Behind Prince George’s Birthday Portrait Ensembles

Just when we thought Prince George’s new birthday portraits couldn’t get any more adorable, we’ve learned that there’s actually a hidden meaning behind the young prince’s outfit choices.

ICYMI: Kensington Palace recently released two new photos of the young royal in honor of his 7th birthday. According to an official social media post, the sweet snaps were (not surprisingly) taken by his mother, Kate Middleton, earlier this month.

And while we were originally focused on how old and mature PG looks, we missed the subtle nod to his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry. Luckily, People quickly pointed out the photos’ connection to the armed forces.

In the first pic, George, who is third in line to the British throne, looks super casual in a camouflage t-shirt as he smiles into the camera. The second photograph features a preppier prince as he rocks an army green-colored polo.

The British royal family has many ties to the armed services. The Duke of Cambridge, for example, was a pilot with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force. Harry, on the other hand, served time in the actual army (10 years to be exact) and was even given the title of Captain. Not to mention, George’s Gan-Gan, Queen Elizabeth, is head of the Armed Forces.

We’re assuming Kate Middleton is responsible for the ensemble choices here, which means we’d bet money the connection was intentional (you know since her outfit choices are usually well thought out for every occasion).

Happy birthday, Prince George. Seven (and army green) looks good on you.
