Here's Who We Think Will (and Won't) Walk Away with an Oscar Nomination

Now that the 76th annual Golden Globes have come to an end, there’s only one thing on our mind: the Oscars. Here’s who we think will walk away with an Oscar nom—including a few surprises.

Best Picture

First up: Best Picture, where we expect to see Green Book at the top of the list. (Hear us out…) Not only did it win three—we repeat, three—Golden Globe Awards, but it also checks all the boxes for Best Picture: Moving? Check. Underrated? Check. Capable of capturing our attention? Check.

Of course, A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and Roma will likely be in the mix, so let’s just hope Rami Malek plans out his on-stage greetings this time around.

Best Actor

Here’s where things get tricky. As much as I’d love for Bradley Cooper to walk away with the award for Best Actor, I don’t think he stands a chance against Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), who recently took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama. I do, however, predict he’s going to be a winner at the 2019 Oscars.

Nevertheless, the pair will likely be nominated among the talents of Christian Bale (Vice) and Mahershala Ali (Green Book), so yeah, pressure’s on.

Best Actress

As for Best Actress, we’ll be the first to say that Lady Gaga got snubbed at the 2019 Golden Globes (no offense, Glenn Close), which is why we’re rooting for the 32-year-old actress to get a nomination. Why? Because she deserves it and will probably come up with an inspirational speech about 100 people in the room, so it’s a win-win.

The singer will likely be nominated alongside Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns), Olivia Colman (The Favourite) and Glenn Close (The Wife), since they’re all we’ve heard about for the past year.

Best Supporting Actor

Best Supporting Actor is going to be a tough category this year, considering Mahershala Ali (Green Book) and Sam Rockwell (Vice) are practically guaranteed nominations.

On a more surprising note, I would love to see Timothée Chalamet (Beautiful Boy) in the mix, because everyone loves a good harness.

Best Supporting Actress

When it comes to Best Supporting Actress, there are far too many to choose from. However, I expect to see Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Emma Stone (The Favourite) on the list of nominees, along with Amy Adams (Vice) and Claire Foy (First Man)—all of whom received recognition during this year’s awards season.

If you need us, we’ll be counting down the days until the nominations are announced on January 22.
