Although Gossip Girl left the air seven years ago, we’re still inspired by the fashion. (Blair’s headbands! Serena’s dresses! The shoes!) As it turns out, so is Nicky Hilton.
In celebration of Hilton’s new French Sole collaboration, we chatted about her love for shoes. While the 36-year-old designer was admittedly drawn to fashion from a very young age, she says her fascination with flats was born in high school.
Hilton recalled, “I went to a strict all-girls school on the UES [ Upper East Side of New York] where we were in a uniform, no makeup, nail polish, no heels, so shoes were our only way of expressing our style. I ended up buying all of my ballet flats at French Sole—usually the chic, classic style with a patent cap toe.”
Since Hilton has long gravitated toward French Sole flats, she was more than happy to create a capsule collection for the brand, which includes styles named for her sister, Paris, and mother, Kathy, as well as Eloise and Holly for—you guessed it—Eloise at the Plaza and Holly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In fact, although her high school days are behind her, she’s still “a flats girl.”
