007 is back! And we couldn’t be more excited for the 25th installment in the James Bond franchise. Though still untitled, Bond 25 has been making headlines since 2017 (!) when whispers of the new movie first escaped. Now, almost two years later, we finally have answers. Read on to find out everything we know about the new Bond movie, from the all-star cast to the long-awaited premiere date.
Here’s Everything We Know About the New James Bond Movie—Including the All-Star Cast
The Cast & Crew
He’s a man on a mission with a license to kill. Daniel Craig is returning as the dangerously handsome man of mystery, Mr. James Bond. After playing the iconic character in four previous films—Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015)—Craig has said this will be his last hurrah (but we’ll believe it when we see it).
In addition to Craig, Bond 25 will bring back key franchise players like Léa Seydoux, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, Jeffrey Wright and Rory Kinnear, plus some new heavy hitters behind the scenes. Cary Fukunaga, the man behind Emmy-award-winning True Detective season one, is signed on as the film’s director following the departure of Danny Boyle, who allegedly left after creative differences. The script is being finalized by Scott Z. Burns and Killing Eve creator, Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
We know what you’re thinking…but who will play the bad guy?! Drumroll please…
The rumors were right! Rami Malek has signed on as the next villain in Bond 25. Although not much more has been revealed about his role, the Bohemian Rhapsody star seems to be up for the challenge: “I’m very much looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew very soon, and I promise you all I will be making sure Mr. Bond does not have an easy ride of it in this, his 25th outing.”
007 is headed for warmer weather. In a recent live event, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli revealed that the new Bond movie will take place in Jamaica. When questioned on the setting, Broccoli stated, “We consider Jamaica Bond’s spiritual home. He starts his journey here.” Bringing everything full circle, the island actually holds a special significance in the history of the James Bond franchise. Not only is Jamaica where the movies first kicked off with Dr. No in 1962, it’s also where British author Ian Fleming (the series creator) wrote the original Bond novels. Mind. Blown.
In true James Bond fashion, little has been revealed about the Bond 25 plot. We do, however, know that Craig’s character has traded in his sniper for some sunscreen: “Bond is not on active service when the film starts. He is enjoying himself in Jamaica,” producer Broccoli revealed. So what pulls him away from his tropical vacation? Our money’s on Malek.
The Premiere Date
Filming for the new movie will officially begin next month and it’s set to hit theaters nationwide on April 8, 2020. Mark your calendars.
