Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry dropped their very first Archewell Audio podcast episode in December 2020, we’ve been patiently waiting for the moment we’d get to hear their voices in our ears again. Well, the wait is over courtesy of the recent news that Markle would be commanding the microphone via a new series—and as of this morning we officially have a name for it: Archetypes.
Meghan Markle Just Revealed the Name of Her New Podcast Series—and It’s Totally on Brand
According to a news release from Spotify, Archetypes is set to be Archewell Audio’s inaugural original podcast series and it is set to launch this summer. It’s focus? To investigate the labels that hold women back. As host, Markle will speak with historians and experts to uncover the origin of these stereotypes and have candid conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape narratives. (Gloria Steinem? Oprah? We can only imagine who her guests will be.)
As part of the announcement, Spotify also released a slick new teaser trailer, narrated by Markle, in which she addresses the stereotypes that have historically generalized women through the lens of pop culture and media: “This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us...but where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?”
Of course, the news of Archetypes comes on the heels of reports that Markle and Prince Harry’s first production with Spotify may have been delayed due to the very public spat over Joe Rogan.
On this week’s episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast (listen to it here!), my co-host Roberta Fiorito and I discuss Markle’s return to the airwaves—and our curiosity about the range of voices that may be included. (Our fingers are crossed that Archie lends his voice once again.) We also love that the name of the show is the perfect offshoot of their main brand, Archewell.
Between this and Prince Harry’s memoir, we have quite a bit of Sussex stuff to look forward to this year.
