‘Industry’ Star Marisa Abela Totally Transforms Into Amy Winehouse in First Look Pics for New Biopic

Move over, Austin Butler, because a new star is taking on the role of a musical icon, and we couldn't be more excited.

Studiocanal is releasing a new biopic titled Back to Black, which will explore the life of English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, who passed away in 2011. And just this weekend, the studio released the first photo of lead Marisa Abela (Industry), who has completely transformed into the “Rehab” singer.

In the snap from the studio, we can see that Abela is rocking Winehouse's signature ’do, her tattoos and even the small freckle above her lip. Major props to that makeup team, because we can't get over how much the 26-year-old actress looks just like the jazz crooner.

The photo was shared by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy), who has been selected to direct the musical picture. In her caption, the British filmmaker wrote, “Marisa Abela…watch out everyone! Cameras roll on Monday. Here we go #backtoblackfilm #amywinehouse.”

Only a day before, Abela made her own post to Instagram, where she quoted Winehouse and uploaded a series of photos, one of which was a selfie she took while decked out in makeup and costume. With this final photo, we can see that the Industry star is even wearing the nameplate necklace that Winehouse wore for the cover of her Back to Black album.

In her caption, Abela wrote, “‘And for London. This is for London. Cause Camden Town ain’t burnin down.’ I love you, Amy. [heart emoji].”

The screenplay for Back to Black was written by Matt Greenhalgh, who penned the scripts for Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool and Nowhere Boy. According to Deadline, the film has the full support of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing and the Amy Winehouse Estate, with the estate saying, “We are thrilled that Studiocanal, Focus Features and Monumental are making this movie celebrating our daughter Amy’s extraordinary music legacy and showcasing her talent in the way that it deserves.”

We couldn't be more excited.
