Disney Reveals New Title, Poster & Premiere Date for ‘Maleficent 2’

Just when we thought we had to wait another year to see Angelina Jolie reprise her role in the highly anticipated Maleficent sequel, Disney swooped in with three major announcements.

The studio just revealed that Maleficent 2 will hit theaters on October 18, 2019, which is far sooner than its original May 2020 release date. To top it off, Disney also debuted the title of the movie, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, along with a brand-new poster.

The photo features Jolie wearing the iconic Maleficent headdress and staring off into the distance, and it appears nothing has changed.

Although we don’t know much about Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, we do know that it will focus on the villain and Aurora (Elle Fanning) forming new alliances. In addition to Jolie and Fanning, a number of familiar faces are reprising their roles in the sequel, including Sam Riley (Diaval), Lesley Manville (Flittle), Juno Temple (Thistlewit) and Imelda Staunton (Knotgrass).

Newcomers include Michelle Pfeiffer (Queen Ingrith), Robert Lindsay (King John), Judi Shekoni (Shrike), Chiwetel Ejiofor (TBA), Jenn Murray (TBA), Ed Skrein (TBA) and Harris Dickinson, who’s replacing Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip.

Thank you, Disney. We really needed this.
