The annual Ceremony of the Keys is one of those rare, historic occasions when we get to see King Charles in Scotland.

The King began his eventful week in the country on Tuesday, appearing at the ceremony for his official welcome, where Robert Aldridge, the lord provost and lord lieutenant of the city of Edinburgh, presented him with a set of keys to the capital city. After the festivities, the official Buckingham Palace Instagram account posted a set of pictures of the day’s events, including a striking photo of King Charles standing at attention (in the second image in the slideshow below).

The royal looked quite dapper, as well, choosing a crisp light beige blazer and matching trousers, which he paired with a colorful green and red striped tie. The Instagram post was captioned, "Today, the historic Ceremony of the Keys took place in the Gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Dating back centuries, this tradition symbolises Edinburgh welcoming its monarch."

"The Lord Provost presented the Keys of the City to His Majesty, who returned them for safekeeping. The King’s Bodyguard Scotland, established in 1822 during King George’s visit, formed the Guard of Honour. Music was provided by The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and their Pipes and Drums, accompanying this traditional royal ceremony in Scotland."

A separate Instagram post from Buckingham Palace explored the annual tradition of the King visiting Scotland some more, sharing a few historic pictures of King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth, with the caption, "Each summer during Royal Week, The King continues the tradition of celebrating Scottish culture and achievement through engagements across the country, using the Palace as his base. The building remains a powerful symbol of the enduring connection between the Monarchy and Scotland, welcoming thousands of visitors year-round who explore its historic State Apartments, Royal Collection, and beautiful gardens."
