King Charles’s week is already off to a busy start.
On Monday, the royal made an appearance at the Town Hall in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, for the presentation of the Letters Patent formally bestowing Royal Charter status on the Port of Barrow. During the event, cameras captured a striking photo of the monarch (seen below) standing out in the sun with a serious expression on his face.
Still, the real standouts were his medals and decorations, which included Jubilee medals, the Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. Also present on the design were the Order of Merit and the Royal Victorian Order. These medals are a nod to King Charles’s military service, his time as a working royal and his connection to the Commonwealth.
After his visit, the Buckingham Palace Instagram account posted a video showing a variety of highlights from the day. The post was captioned, “Celebrating the town of Barrow! Today, the King visited community hubs and local businesses in Barrow-in-Furness before presenting Letters Patent to formally bestow Royal Charter status on the Port of Barrow. The honour is in recognition of the town’s critical contribution to national defence and industry.”
Things are about to stay busy for the royals. According to The Sun, both King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to make an official state visit to Vatican City in October. According to the publication, the royal couple was set to hold a State visit there in April, but that trip was postponed due to Francis’s ill health at the time.
The visit will reportedly last a few days.
