On a visit to RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland this week, King Charles was in peak form. On hand to represent a Squadron Standard and learn more about the Royal Air Force base, the monarch donned his Marshal’s uniform as he greeted troops and members of the public, delivered remarks and even chatted with local children from the Airplay Youth support program. He seemed confident and at ease, and most importantly, happy to be there.
King Charles’s Body Language at Recent Military Visit Speaks Volumes
All hail the confident king

But this might just be Charles’s new M.O.—and, according to body language expert, Darren Stanton, it also speaks volumes about the current state of the king’s reign. Per Stanton, who shared his insights on behalf of Betfair Slots, the king exhibited signs of “genuine joy” and naturally generated a quick rapport as he conversed with members of the public. In fact, any previous insecurities seem to have been left behind for the king. A testament to the length of time he’s been on the job or potentially a sign of deeper shift?

We’d side with the latter—after all, Charles has had a rocky couple of years since his coronation in 2023. Beyond the public family drama with Prince Harry playing out in the media day in and day out, he was diagnosed with cancer last year. He powered through, returning to royal work just a few months later and his enthusiasm for his role seems to have only expanded.
According to Stanton, previously we’d see Charles exhibiting common signs of nerves—hands tucked in his jacket, moments where he’d fiddle with his cufflinks or tie—all of which demonstrated that he wasn’t all that sure of himself. This has all changed in recent months and, beyond being confident and happy to be there, it almost appears as though he’d stay longer if he could. (That royal diary—always on overdrive.)

Maybe it’s the fact that he has a greater sense that time is fleeting or he simply feels a greater comfortability within his royal role. It could also be that summer vacation is upon him. His Scotland engagement marks one of his last official duties before retreating to Balmoral—royal tradition, but also likely a welcome reprieve.
Either way, we’re happy to see the king looking at ease and very much like himself.
