As royal followers well know, Prince William and the rest of the fam are huge sports fans. Kate Middleton made not one, but two surprise appearances at Wimbledon this year. Prince Harry produced an entire Netflix series about polo. And just yesterday, Princess Charlotte showed up with her dad to watch the Lionesses battle it out against Spain.

But let's not forget one of the biggest sports fans: King Charles himself. Yesterday, the monarch posted a rare personal letter on Instagram in response to the English women's soccer team winning the EUROS 2025.

In his message, King Charles wrote, "This brings you, your manager and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the EUROS 2025." He went on to call out their "awesome teamwork" and concluded with a challenge: "The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can!"

The king signed his letter "Charles R." Royal fans may already know this, but "R" is not an initial representing Charles's last name. The letter “R” stands for “Rex,” which is the Latin translation for “king.” Even Queen Camilla has included the letter “R” in her unique signature in the past. (In her case, “R” stands for “Regina,” which means “queen” in Latin.)

While the king was clearly excited about the Lionesses' victory over Spain, he wasn't the only one. Prince William and Princess Charlotte—who were both in attendance at the match in Switzerland—shared their excitement on Instagram as well.

Along with footage of the team celebrating the win, Kensington Palace shared a message in their IG Stories. It read, "What a game! @lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment @england."

But the best part? The note was signed by William and Charlotte, meaning the words were personally written by the duo. While notes from William are fairly common, it's not often we get a message from the young princess.

It's clear the royal 10-year-old is growing up fast.
