The royals are experts at embedding hidden messages in their clothing, this we know. But when Princess Charlotte joined her dad, Prince William, to watch England’s women’s soccer team (nicknamed the Lionesses) beat Spain in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final, she kicked things up a notch by using her fashion to draw a thoughtful line to another meaningful athletic occasion—and one involving mom, Kate Middleton.
I Was So Distracted by Princess Charlotte’s Appearance Yesterday That I Nearly Missed This Sweet Nod to Her Mom
#TBT to Wimbledon 2024

#TBT to Wimbledon 2024 when Princess Charlotte stepped out with Kate, to honor a very special moment for the Princess of Wales, who was mid-cancer treatment and only just starting to make her return to royal business as usual. Charlotte—who, according to reports, was very much by her mother’s side throughout her treatment—beamed at her mom as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz squared off on the court for the Men’s Final.
Fast forward and she also happened to be wearing the very same polka dot dress as the one she turned up wearing in Switzerland yesterday beside her dad. (The references back to this milestone moment for mom were immediate.)

But that’s what we love about royal fashion—the idea that a singular look can connect the dots to various occasions. The synergy between the Lionesses game and Wimbledon is clear. Both events provided 1:1 time for Princess Charlotte with a single parent, first Kate, then William; but each occasion also highlights the close bond (and shared interests) Charlotte has with her mom and dad. (William and Kate are known for the priority they put on family and it shows.)
Of course, polka dots is also a look that’s well-suited to royal life. (Kate, Camilla, Sophie—all are known to rock the pattern.) More than anything, we love that Charlotte could be there to witness such a nail-biter of a game in person. After all, she’s a longtime fan.
