It’s been 19 months since Prince Harry last met in person with his father, King Charles, but today that streak has been broken with reports of the Duke of Sussex being seen arriving by car at Clarence House, the monarch’s London-based address.

Harry has been in town since Monday for a four-day visit that began with a trip to pay his respects to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, at Windsor Castle on the anniversary of her death followed by his attendance at the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Awards. The days after have been punctuated by a range of engagements including a trip to Nottingham, England to meet with social action groups and local charities.
Today, speculation about a potential meeting between the king and his second-born son grew as Harry returned to London to visit the Imperial College London’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies while Charles was spotted boarding a plane from Scotland after honoring the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death at Balmoral Castle. It was at around 5:20 p.m., local time, that Prince Harry was seen pulling up to Clarence House, according to People. The meeting is said to have lasted just under an hour. (For their part, Buckingham Palace did confirm that the king held a private tea with the Duke of Sussex at Clarence House and said that no further details would be provided.)

The last time the royal pair saw each other in person was very briefly in February 2024, mere days after Charles revealed to the world that he was being treated for a still undisclosed type of cancer. This past May, Harry sat for an emotional interview with BBC News and shared his desire for “reconciliation” with his extended family after a long-standing rift that began with his decision to exit his official role within the monarchy in January 2020. Staffers for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and King Charles’s teams were spotted meeting over the summer, signaling signs that communication had re-opened following bumpy times.
What will come of today’s conversation? Does this mean a reunion with Prince William is coming next? Time will tell. More than anything, I’m thrilled to see a meeting materialize, especially given that the king’s ongoing rift with Harry—and how it gets resolved—has the potential to be one of the most legacy-defining pieces of his reign.
