Katy Perry Opted to Go to Work Dressed as a Disney Villain Yesterday

Katy Perry is no sartorial wallflower. Throughout her years in the limelight, she has dressed up as candy, Uncle Sam, popcorn, a Smurfette, a voting ballot and many, many more things you don’t typically see people dressed as. Last night, despite the fact that it wasn’t Halloween but Easter, the 34-year-old Grammy winner decided to up the ante and dress in full Disney villain garb.

Perry hit the American Idol (aka her place of work) red carpet in a full Ursula from The Little Mermaid costume. She shared an Instagram slideshow showcasing her ensemble’s many features and captioned it, “Tonight there will be some poor unfortunate souls. Tune in to @AmericanIdol now and VOTE!” Clever, Katy.

She had the purple face, the sparkly blue eye shadow, the conch shell necklace, the wild white hair, eight tentacles and—most importantly—shrimp cocktail to-go. Perry’s tentacles were even attached to her wrists via fishing wire, so they wriggled around as she moved. How could her co-hosts Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie not be impressed? (For the record, they did not hop on the Disney train and dress up. Shame.) The question remains: How was her evil villain cackle?

To be fair, this isn’t the first time Perry has pulled out all the costume stops for Disney-themed events. She dressed as Snow White for the show’s 2018 Disney-themed episode and Minnie Mouse for the beloved character’s Walk of Fame ceremony in January 2018.

Hey, when you find a way to bring shrimp cocktail onto the red carpet, lean in.
