Katy Perry is opening up about her relationship with Orlando Bloom, and it sounds like a cheesy episode of The Bachelor…in the best way possible.
The American Idol judge, 34, recently sat down for a radio interview with Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, where she discussed her surprise engagement to the Pirates of the Caribbean star, 42.
“It was Valentine’s Day and I had to work that day,” she said. “I just remember meeting him at dinner at this place, this Italian restaurant, because when I get a pass, I just want to stuff my face with pasta. So, I get there and, I mean, he’s like clean-shaven. He’s not wearing tennis shoes. I’m like ‘Ah, something is going down!’ We were ordering everything, and I was like ‘Who is this person?’”
Perry went on to describe a proposal we’d see on ABC’s The Bachelor, adding, “I got on a helicopter and he asked me to marry him, and then we landed on this building and then went downstairs, and my family and friends were there and the most flowers you’ve ever seen. It’s like when Kanye does that for Kim, you’re like ‘Oh, my God!’ and I was like ‘Oh, my God!’ Anyways, it’s great. He’s great. I love him very much.”
This isn’t the first time Perry spoke about her engagement. Back in February, the singer appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and shared details about the big day.
In the clip, Perry explains that she first met Bloom at the 2016 Golden Globes, when he stole an In-N-Out burger off her table. She says she told him, “‘Fine, take it.’ And then I saw him at a party, and I was like, ‘How are those onions resting on your molars?’”
After confirming that she “voiced her opinions about the [engagement] ring,” Perry reveals that he popped the question on Valentine’s Day.
“I thought we were going to see some art after dinner, but we pulled up to a helicopter,” she adds.
Kimmel proceeds to say what we’re all thinking: “Very Bachelor.”
Although Bloom proposed in the helicopter, Perry went on to explain that things didn’t go as planned. After giving her a letter to read as a “distraction,” the actor learned the hard way that his coat pocket was too small for the ring box.
She continues, “He’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket, and he rips his coat pocket, and his elbow goes into the Champagne, and I’m like, ‘No, I’m just reading the note. I know you’re not doing anything.’”
