When it comes to the royal family, rumors are practically part of the job description. From whispers about personal relationships to speculation over seemingly minor details, the public is always watching—and guessing. But when it comes to the royals actually addressing those rumors? That’s a much rarer event. Official statements are few and far between and, more often than not, the palace prefers to stay silent.

Sometimes, though, the royal family appears to respond in subtler, more low-key ways—like a carefully timed photo or a casual social media post. That seems to be exactly what Kate Middleton did with her most recent Instagram upload.

In case you missed it, April 11 marked National Pet Day, and to celebrate, the Princess of Wales shared a sweet snapshot of the family’s black cocker spaniel, Orla. The photo, taken outdoors, shows Orla’s sleek black coat standing out beautifully against a backdrop of rich, forest greenery.

“Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives this #NationalPetDay,” Middleton captioned the post.

While the image was undoubtedly shared to honor their beloved pup, it also appears to subtly address—and possibly shut down—recent speculation that the royal family had added a new dog to their household.

That rumor started back on March 30, when Middleton posted a nature-themed video tribute for the U.K.'s Mother's Day. Among the peaceful scenes of waves, rain and countryside walks, viewers spotted a clip of someone walking barefoot, followed closely by two dogs. Naturally, royal watchers immediately began to speculate: had the family welcomed a new furry member?

Other theories floated around. Some suggested the second dog could belong to Kate’s parents, especially since the setting looked familiar. Others guessed it might be her brother James Middleton’s dog, Nala. But with Kate’s recent post, the message seems clear: Orla remains the family’s one and only royal pup.
