Welp, Julie Andrews Hasn’t Been Contacted About ‘The Princess Diaries 3’

Julie Andrews is opening up about the possibility of reuniting the cast for The Princess Diaries 3, and (disclaimer!) it doesn’t sound very promising.

The 84-year-old actress appeared on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and discussed recent rumors claiming that another sequel is in the works. Andrews admitted that while she’d love to return to Genovia, she hasn’t been contacted about another film.

“Well, the truth is I haven’t heard,” said Andrews, who played Queen Clarisse Renaldi. “But there’s been talk about it for quite a while.”

The actress went on to address her co-star Anne Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis), who is currently expecting her second child with her husband, Adam Shulman.

“I think [Hathaway] had or is having a second child, and she’s busy, and I’ve been busy,” Andrews continued. “I think if it happens, it would be lovely, and if it doesn’t, I wouldn’t have known about it.”

The news might surprise some fans, since Hathaway teased another movie earlier this year. “There is a script for the third movie,” she told Cohen. “There is a script. I want to do it, Julie wants to do it, Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.”

The Princess Diaries originally premiered in 2001 and was based on Meg Cabot’s 2000 novel of the same name. The sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, was released in 2004.

In the wise words of Mia Thermopolis, “Shut. Up.”
