Here’s How to Watch ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Live on NBC, Starring John Legend

It’s not every night that John Legend offers to serenade you for three hours straight (for free). So when the ten-time Grammy Award winner takes the stage as Jesus this Easter Sunday for NBC’s live production of Jesus Christ Superstar, you bet your Peeps we’ll be watching. Here’s how you can, too.

Since the musical event is live, it’s only scheduled to air once on TV at 5 p.m. PT 8 p.m. ET on NBC.  Jesus Christ Superstar will run for exactly three hours and will end at 8 p.m. PT 11 p.m. ET. And if you’re stuck at Grandma’s house, great news: The show will also simultaneously stream live on NBC.com (all you need to catch the musical event on your preferred electronic device is your cable provider login).

If a Cadbury egg–induced sugar crash prevents you from catching Jesus Christ Superstar live, don’t worry. The show will also be available to stream on Hulu for a full day after it airs on NBC.

So who else is joining in on the Broadway classic fun? In addition to Legend starring as Jesus, pop singer Sara Bareilles plays Mary Magdalene and rock legend Alice Cooper portrays King Herod. Brandon Victor Dixon of Hamilton fame stars as Judas.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Broadway classic’s plot, here’s a quick refresher: The story centers on the last week of Jesus’s life, as told from the perspective of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. The Tony Award–winning musical was penned by legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the OperaCats) and lyricist Tim Rice (Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat).

We’ll be tuning in with our Easter candy bounty when NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar airs at 5 p.m. PT 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 1. Oh, we’ll obviously keep a close watch on Chrissy Teigen’s Twitter to see how hard she trolls her husband.
