Guess Who Javier Bardem May Be Playing in the Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’

Disney is keeping us on our toes when it comes to their upcoming live-action Little Mermaid film. And today, the casting reports continue...this time with Javier Bardem.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 50-year-old actor is in talks to play King Triton, ruler of Atlantica.

Bardem would join the star-studded cast including Halle Bailey as Ariel (daughter of Triton), Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle and of course Melissa McCarthy as the villain Ursula.

The news comes on the heels of yesterday’s reports that singer Harry Styles is also in talks to play Prince Eric. Now that’s a cast we can get behind.

Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) is directing the film, which will feature original songs from the 1989 animated hit as well as new tunes from original composer Alan Menken (with some assistance from Lin-Manuel Miranda).

David Magee (Life of Pi) penned the latest script for the reboot, while Marc Platt (La La Land), Marshall, Miranda (Hamilton) and John DeLuca (Into the Woods) are producing. Production for the film is set to begin early 2020.

Welcome to Atlantica (possibly), Javier!
