They say “like father, like son,” and in the case of Jason Momoa and his 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf, that couldn’t be more true. In some very cool casting news, it turns out Nakoa-Wolf is stepping into the spotlight and right onto the set of one of the biggest sci-fi franchises of the decade. Yup, he's officially making his acting debut in the Dune universe.

According to Deadline, Nakoa-Wolf—Momoa’s son with ex-wife Lisa Bonet—has been cast in the next installment of the Dune saga, and he won’t be navigating the set alone. He’ll star alongside his dad, who’s reprising his fan-favorite role as Duncan Idaho. Nakoa-Wolf will play Leto II, the son of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).

Can I take a second to talk about how much Nakoa is starting to look more like his dad? From the long, curly brown hair to the strong features (yes, the nose too), the resemblance is uncanny. There’s no mistaking that these two are 100% related.

This will be Nakoa-Wolf’s first time on the big screen and what a big screen to start on. 2021's Dune film was a massive hit, earning 10 Oscar nominations and winning six, including Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects. Its sequel, Dune: Part Two (2024), continued the story and racked up both critical and fan acclaim.

The upcoming third installment, set to adapt Dune Messiah, picks up 12 years after the events of the first two films and is slated for release in 2026. If you’ve read the books, you know Leto II’s role only gets more intense—so it’s a big deal that Nakoa-Wolf is stepping into it.

For fans of the Dune universe, it’s exciting to see the legacy of the story continue and now, the same goes for the Momoa family. Between the epic scale of the franchise and the real-life father-son dynamic, this casting is next-level cool.
