Idris Elba Is Joining ‘The Suicide Squad’ as This Villain’s Replacement

The Suicide Squad sequel is undergoing a few changes, and we aren’t even mad about it. (No offense, Will Smith.)

Idris Elba is reportedly replacing Smith as Deadshot in the highly anticipated sequel, The Suicide Squad, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Luther star, 46, recently met with filmmaker James Gunn, who confirmed the actor is his first choice.

The announcement comes one week after Smith revealed that he isn’t reprising his role. The actor played Deadshot in the original 2016 movie, which was directed by David Ayer (Fury) and followed the Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the sequel, but we do know that it will feature an almost entirely new cast. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean we won’t see familiar faces, considering Harley Quinn is expected to make an appearance. *Please still be Margot Robbie. Please still be Margot Robbie*

Welcome to the squad, Elba. The Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
