It’s official: Hoda Kotb is engaged to her longtime beau, Joel Schiffman.
The 55-year-old host just confirmed that Schiffman popped the question over the weekend while they were on vacation in Mexico. Kotb announced the exciting news on this morning’s episode of the Today show, where she surprised her co-workers during a live segment.
“I have to tell you something that a friend of mine, a friend of ours, asked me to let you guys in on a secret,” she says in the clip. “I’ll give you her initials. Her initials are Hoda Kotb, and she’s engaged.”
Just then, Kotb pulls out her hand from under the table to unveil the stunning ring she’s wearing on that finger. The accessory features a large rectangular diamond, which is surrounded by a halo of blue gems.
Her co-workers are understandably shocked, reacting with a several “What!?” responses, followed by congratulatory remarks.
Kotb goes on to discuss Schiffman’s proposal, which took place after their meal at a restaurant. “He said some beautiful things and then he got down on one knee,” she explains. “He said, ‘Would you be my wife?’”
The TV host then confirms that it was a total surprise, adding, “He’s good. He had a good poker face.”
Kotb and Schiffman have been together for six years. They’re parents to two adopted daughters: 2-year-old Haley and baby Hope.
