Emilia Clarke Finally Reveals the True Story Behind ‘Coffee Cup’–Gate During ‘Game of Thrones’

The coffee cup seen 'round the world. (Yes, this is what Game of Thrones has come to.)

ICYMI: A rogue Starbucks cup made its way into a scene from the fourth episode of Game of Thrones. The "prop" was spotted on the table in front of Daenerys during the celebratory feast right after the Battle of Winterfell.

While said paper vessel may never have its moment of glory (HBO scrubbed the misplaced object from Game of Thrones episode four quickly and quietly soon after, though not before it went viral on Twitter), it'll always live on in our hearts. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys on the epic TV show and recently sat down with The New Yorker, had to clear the coffee-scented air.

When asked about the infamous cup, Clarke said none of the GoT cast members even drink Starbucks. (Ooo, want some foam for that coffee burn?)

"So, I’m just going to let you in on a little Game of Thrones trivia," Clarke said. "We don’t drink Starbucks. So anyone who’s clucking around with a Starbucks cup is someone who is not a cast member. There’s no mocha-wocha-frappuccino anywhere."

Mocha-what? Is that some sorta fancy King's Landing order?

When asked if that meant she was putting the blame on the on-set caterers, she said, "Yes, I am. I’m ratting out craft services... It could’ve been anyone’s gin. Or it could have been some very fancy producer’s mochaccino."

A producer, you say? Or perhaps it was two showrunners who made a cameo during that exact scene in episode four?

"When Kit is having his kind of 'Cheers,' and he’s downing all the booze, there are two people who look slightly like a Metallica tribute band, and they are our showrunners and writers, David Benioff and Mr. Dan Weiss," Clarke said.

"They are in the shot. Most people were laughing at their terrible handlebar mustaches rather than looking at anything that was on the table," the GoT star continued. "When I was watching it, I was too busy laughing at their hilarious return to acting. So there are many excuses for the coffee cup for you. Pick whichever one you’d like."

We blame Dan and Dave, too!!! (Sorry, that was way too easy.)
