We’ve all got a nickname or two we absolutely can’t stand.

For Gabrielle Union, it just so happens that one of hers comes from her husband, Dwyane Wade, and let’s just say she isn’t a fan of this particular choice. The NBA Hall of Famer recently guest-hosted an episode of Jenna & Friends and gave viewers a glimpse into his marriage with the Being Mary Jane actress while also discussing the burgeoning relationship between Kylie Jenner and Timotheé Chalamet.

Chuckling at Jenner and Chalamet's anniversary of following each other on Instagram, Wade reflected on the earlier phases of his and Union’s relationship with host Jenna Bush Hager. “Me and Gabby’s first big step? Wade started to respond upon Hager asking him about the first big step in their relationship, catching himself in the process. “Ooh, I called her Gabby. She would not like that,” he said playfully, which prompted a quick follow-up question from Hager.

“You don’t call her Gabby?” asked Hager. Wade then stated that his wife isn’t a fan of the name “Gabby,” and that he instead has to call her “Gabs,” which is “a long story.”

Okay, so we now know that Gabrielle doesn’t like to be called “Gabby,” which is certainly interesting information, but how about that first step Wade had to take in their relationship for them to be “official?” Well, that involves a nickname Union does like. “The kids, if you saw the sign that we put up when I proposed to her, it said ‘Nickie,’ and so I kind of introduced her as Nickie, which comes from Union’s middle name, Monique.

As for Union, she joined Wade for one of his co-hosting segments during the week and told the funny story of their first unofficial meeting, recalling how she initially mistook Wade for one of her friends during an NBA All-Star Weekend in 2004 (Wade was still a rookie at the time), and grabbed him from behind, only to realize her embarrassing mistake. I was like, “Ahh!” Union explained, as she and her husband laughed.

All eventually worked out, though, as Wade proposed to Union on December 21, 2013, and the couple married on August 30, 2014, in Miami, Florida. Together they share a 6-year-old daughter, Kaavia,  and Union is the stepmother to Wade's three kids Zaire (23), Zaya (18) and Xavier (11).
