What doesn’t Gabrielle Union do? From starring in hit films like Bring It On (2000), Bad Boys II (2003) and Think Like A Man (2012) to helming her lauded Flawless line, which focuses on a range of hair products for those with curly hair types, the star has built an incredible career as an actress and entrepreneur. And that’s just her professional life. In August 2014, Union tied the knot with long-time boyfriend, NBA star Dwyane Wade, in an intimate Miami ceremony. Together, the couple share 6-year-old daughter, Kaavia,  and Union is the stepmother to Wade's three kids Zaire, Zaya and Xavier.

Read on to find out more about Gabrielle Union’s kids.

1. Kaavia James (6)

Born on November 7, 2018 via surrogate, Kaavia James is the baby of the family. Prior to her arrival, Union had openly spoken of her struggles with infertility and IVF treatments. In her book, We're Going to Need More Wine, Union writes: “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant.” The actor continues, “I've either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”

Eventually, the Wade’s were blessed with Kaavia, and on her sixth birthday, the couple celebrated their princess with a sweet social media post and caption that read, “Miss Kaavia James Union Wade is 6 today!!! You are a miracle who has blessed everyone with your kindness, compassion, elite humor, intelligence and your loving soul. You are a gift to your family, blood and chosen, and so many people across the world." They continued, "We love you beyond measure and we celebrate your cute little self-daily.”

2. Zaire Wade (23)

Born on Feb. 4, 2002, Zaire is the first child between Wade and his ex-wife DR. Siohvaughn Funches. Following in the footsteps of his father, Zaire has played professionally for the NBA G-League’s Salt Lake City Stars and the Cape Town Tigers. Prior to his professional career, Zaire also played alongside Lebron James's son, Bronny James, at Sierra Canyon School.

In a 2020 interview with People, Wade shared his role in his son’s basketball career. “I’m in the passenger’s seat, but I’m definitely not in the backseat. He’s in the driver’s seat,” he told the publication, adding, “If basketball is the ultimate goal, then I’m just trying to help him along the way, understanding there’s so many different ways to get to this goal. It’s not just one way, it’s not go through high school, be a superstar. Go into college, be a superstar. Get drafted number one, and now you’re there.”

3. Zaya Wade (17)

The second child between Wade and Funches, Zaya Wade made her arrival on May 29, 2007, and is building a career as a model. In July 2023, Zaya was announced as one of the faces of Miu Miu’s fall/winter 2023-2024 collection, and has continued working with the brand since. That same year, Zaya made her magazine cover debut with Dazed, where she spoke a bit about Union’s influence in her life: “She tries to teach me that beauty standards are arbitrary and that they don’t mean anything.”

Zaya, who is transgender, also spoke about the overall support from her family, saying, “So many big changes have happened over the last couple of years with me, but also just in general. I think it’s not my job, but it’s my honor to continue and further my family’s education and appreciation for the entire LBGTQ+ community as we grow together. As our understanding of acceptance has broadened over the past couple of years, we have made the strides to keep ourselves educated and combat the ignorance.”

4. Xavier Wade (11)

Born on Nov. 10, 2013, Xavier Wade is the son of Wade and Basketball Wives star, Aja Metoyer. Wade wrote a bit about coparenting and his relationship with Xavier in his 2021 memoir, Dwyane: “Xavier doesn't live with me, so we don't get to see each other every day like I do with my other kids. It makes things challenging at times, but it's my job to make sure he never has to carry that weight,” he wrote. “It's up to me to make sure he knows he's being raised with love even if we don't live under the same roof, and it's up to me to let him know that while distance may physically separate us at times, I'm always going to be the man he can depend on to love him and help lead him.”

Wade’s memoir also revealed that Xavier is (or was at that time, at least) a big Fortnite fan. “So if Xavier is into Fortnite, then I'm going to try to learn as much about Fortnite as I can to meet him where he's at so we can have conversations about Fortnite, right?,” noted Wade as he spoke about the importance of sharing bonding time with Xavier.

I’d have to say it sounds like Union and Wade are darn good parents who are ultra supportive of their kids’ interests. Here’s to learning Fortnight.
