That was a close one

As with any major concert production, there’s far more going on behind the scenes than the audience ever sees. From intricate stage mechanics to sound design, lighting cues, and perfectly timed choreography, every element plays a role in making sure the show runs smoothly. And when even one piece slips out of sync, it can lead to a potential disaster. That was nearly the case during night two of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour in Los Angeles.

The moment occurred while the R&B icon was performing her song “Cozy.” In a fan-captured clip that quickly made the rounds online, Beyoncé can be seen looking down at the stage floor mid-performance, seemingly searching for something. Fans quickly speculated she was looking for her mark—an essential part of staging that lets her know exactly where to stand. This was especially crucial in this moment, as the next part of the number featured robotic, motorized picture frames that move across the stage—and she’s meant to be perfectly positioned between them.

“She was so scared to get hit by the arms omg,” one fan wrote, noting that there had been “so many malfunctions tonight.” Others chimed in with concern: “She literally looks scared,” one person commented, while another pointed out the risks: “This is actually really dangerous. Those robot frames are programmed, not controlled in real-time. Without her markings, one of them could’ve knocked her smooth out.”

Despite the chaos, fans couldn’t stop praising Beyoncé’s composure. “A true professional! Not a beat missed,” one commenter said. Another wrote, “She kept her composure because she is THAT GIRL.”

Stage snafus may come and go, but one thing that remained flawlessly consistent during the kickoff of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour was the fashion. After opening night in Inglewood, California on April 28, Beyoncé took to Instagram to share a carousel of her tour looks—and each one was more stunning than the last. From an all-white fringe ensemble that blended classic Western flair with modern glam, to a dramatic, floor-sweeping cape emblazoned with the American flag, the outfits were a visual extension of the Cowboy Carter era.

Here’s hoping the rest of the tour brings fewer technical glitches—and plenty more show-stopping moments.
