Amy Schumer has shown off her comedic skills in everything from Trainwreck to I Feel Pretty, so it came as no surprise when we learned that the 42-year-old star was originally handed the role of Barbie for the live-action comedy (a role which, of course, eventually went to Margot Robbie). But while the New York native ended up exiting the film that would become Barbie, she still went to see it in theaters, along with the simultaneously-hyped Oppenheimer. And now, Schumer's shared her reaction to both on Instagram.

“Really enjoyed Barbie and Oppenheimer but I think I should have played Emily Blunt's role,” Schumer quipped in her caption. “Do better Hollywood.”

Along with this caption, the Life & Beth actress included a pic of herself wearing a sunhat and sunglasses while holding a popsicle.

This post may have been Schumer's way of referencing the fact that she left the Barbie lead role (without explicitly saying it).

It was over six years ago, back in December 2016, that the Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo writer was in negotiations for the role of Barbara “Barbie” Millicent Roberts.

In 2017, Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, rewrote the script that was presented to them. However, that March, Schumer exited the project, citing scheduling conflicts.

After, Anne Hathaway was considered for the role, but it would ultimately go to Robbie. As a fan of Greta Gerwig, Robbie approached the Little Women director and got her to sign on as writer and director in July 2021.

This year, Schumer finally opened up about the real reason she left the project, during a visit to Watch What Happens Live.

Schumer told host Andy Cohen, “I can’t wait to see the [Margot Robbie] movie, it looks awesome. I think we said it was scheduling conflicts, that’s what we said. But yeah, it really was just creative differences. But you know, there’s a new team behind it, and it looks like it’s very feminist and cool so I will be seeing the movie.”

Looks like Schumer did see the movie and she enjoyed it. (And we won't try too hard to read into her IG captions.)

Wait, This A-List Actress Was Up Against Margot Robbie for the Role of Barbie?!
