Upgrading your living space with smart home devices is a wonderful way to streamline your day, and few are easier to use (or install) than the Echo Dot. This Amazon best seller is reportedly a breeze to set up, meaning you can start putting Alexa to work—playing music, setting timers, answering queries—in no time. Even better, the new 5th Generation Echo Dot, which has glowing customer reviews and is currently a whopping 54 percent off at the moment, having dropped from $50 to $23. With a deal that good, we might just add multiples to our cart to gift to friends and family, or to have one in every room of our home.

There are multiple Echo devices on sale at the moment, but the 5th Generation model is at the top of our list for several reasons. It’s the newest version available, featuring all the Echo Dot features you know and love, like Alexa voice command, which you can use to answer questions, set alarms, tell you the weather or stream music. The 5th generation also comes with improved audio, including clearer vocals (for both songs and podcasts or news reports), deeper bass and an overall more vibrant quality. And its new Eero Wi-Fi extender helps to extend the range of your network (buh-bye, household dead zones).

This newest generation also comes with improved temperature and motion sensors that can trigger routines with compatible smart home devices. For example, the Echo Dot can prompt your heat to turn on if it’s determined that temperatures have dipped below a certain point. Or, your Echo Dot can start turning on the lights in your kitchen if it detects that you’ve gotten up and out of bed so you can mosey on over to your coffee maker, posthaste, to get your day started on the right foot.

But don’t just take our word for it. One impressed buyer shares, “The generation 5 Dot sounds great in a smaller room. Good bass for such a little thing. The 4th generation ($100; $55) was good, but the 5th is a little clearer and deeper....I love it. It sounds great on its own or paired together in a stereo configuration (much better).”

All three chic color options—black, navy blue and glacier white—are included in the sale, so you can choose whichever one blends best with your existing decor. Oh, and did we mention you can save an addition 20 percent, bringing your total down to just $18, if you trade in an old Amazon device (the Echo Dot 4th generation, Kindle Oasis and Fire HD 10 tablet are all eligible)? We’ll take two, please (or three), thanks!
