Raise your hand if you love the nostalgia of Christmas. (Good, same.) Now, ladle up a cup of eggnog, don your scratchiest synthetic sweater and get ready to decorate like it. Here are three vintage Christmas trends that are having a magical comeback this season.
Nostalgic Gals, Rejoice: These 3 Retro Christmas Trends Are Making a Comeback
Flocked Trees
Recently, it seems like all our favorite design bloggers (see Reinvented Collection’s tree, above) are making like it’s 1962 and flocking their Christmas trees. Refresher: Flocking is the mid-century trend of dusting your entire tree in white powder (here’s our favorite) to achieve a snowy effect. The finished look? Wonderfully retro winter wonderland.
Antique Glass Ornaments
We love mixing heirloom ornaments with our own baubles every year. But this season, our favorite tastemakers are doubling down on old-timey mercury glass. (How chic is Vintage Whites’ ornament bowl display?) Consider this your excuse to raid granny’s attic for her antique collection of Shiny Brites. (Or head to a retailer offering up reproductions—shh, we won’t tell if you won’t.)
Christmas Cloches
From mantles to tablescapes, vintage-inspired “snow globes” are everywhere this season. Filled with retro woodland figurines, bottle brush trees, vintage toy cars and—yup—fake snow, this kid-friendly DIY is the very best kind of kitsch. (Psst: We love this easy tutorial by Little House of Four.)
