Will it be chocolate or vanilla?

I was pretty psyched when Wendy’s launched a tropical Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty last summer as part of a new Spongebob-themed Krabby Patty Meal. But the fast food chain’s latest treat is even more nostalgic. In collaboration with Girl Scouts, there is now a limited-time Thin Mints Frosty on the menu. I tasted it shortly after it became available and can assure you it’s worth trying. Read on for my full review.

First, you’ll have to decide if you want the vanilla or chocolate Frosty as your base. Then, it’s paired with a rich, mint-chocolate cookie crumble sauce that’s used both to line the cup and crown the Frosty.

Personally, I think it’s kind of an ingenious pairing. Thin Mints are beloved for their crispness, refreshing flavor and just-sweet-enough chocolate coating. But if you’re like me, refrigerating (or freezing) them makes them even tastier. Matching their essence with an already-delicious frozen dessert is an easy win.

I was so pleased to find that the sauce tasted eerily similar to its namesake. But better than the mint flavor (which was, admittedly, ever-so-slightly medicinal at times, although the sweetness of the Frosty base offered balance) was the texture. The cookie bits are less like crumbs and more like a fine, gritty powder. They stayed crunchy and firm for longer than expected, too.

I preferred the vanilla (as always), because it allowed the sauce to shine. But even for someone who doesn’t like chocolate ice cream, the chocolate variety was pretty darn tasty. I liked that its flavor leaned malty and milky (sort of like Ovaltine) more than fudgy, so it didn’t overpower the sauce.

The TLDR? Head to the nearest drive-thru and treat yourself.
