How to Prevent Ice Cream from Getting Freezer Burn
Because no one deserves that
Picture it: It’s a beautiful, warm day and you’re pining for a frozen treat. You reach for your beloved Cherry Garcia only to discover that--gasp--it’s fallen victim to freezer burn. Talk about a day-ruiner. To prevent this tragedy from ever happening again, follow these simple steps.
What you need: A pint of ice cream and plastic wrap.
What you do: To store an already-opened pint, place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the ice cream before putting the lid on. Then store it in the back of the freezer.
Why it works: The plastic wrap minimizes the ice cream’s exposure to air (a main culprit of freezer burn), while placing it toward the back of the freezer, where the temperature is most stable, prevents it from thawing and re-freezing.
If you finish pints in one sitting and never need to reseal, carry on. (We salute you.)
