Cookie Week Starts Now at ‘New York Times Cooking’ (& I Have the Exclusive on This Year’s Treats)

You heard it here first, bakers

What signals the start of the holiday season for you? Maybe it’s the Peppermint Mocha reclaiming its spot on the menu at Starbucks and Dunkin’. Or perhaps it’s the return of the Wawa Gobbler, or Cracker Barrel’s country fried turkey. For me, a food editor and lover of all things delicious, it’s Cookie Week at New York Times Cooking.

Even as someone who’s admittedly baking-averse (and devoid of finesse when it comes to kneading, frosting—you get the picture), I’m tempted enough by at least one recipe every year to bust out the stand mixer. In 2024, it was Eric Kim’s Lemon-Turmeric Crinkle Cookies. This year, it’ll be one of the following seven confections, which are debuting on the NYTC site today.

Read on for the PureWow exclusive on 2025’s Cookie Week lineup, as well as details on how the publication is celebrating with readers.

From December 1 to 7, New York Times Cooking will be celebrating Cookie Week with seven new cookie recipes, accompanied by videos that’ll help you nail the desserts on your first try. If you’re new to Cookie Week, it’s kind of a big huge deal. (Seriously—some people prepare the entire lineup in one day to share photos and feedback with fellow bakers.)

Here are the Cookie Week recipes for 2025:

Even more exciting than these adventurous goodies? A New York Times newspaper truck is being transformed into a—wait for it—cookie delivery truck, stocked with freshly baked confections that will be dished out by members of the NYTC team, to celebrate with readers. In fact, Vreeland, author of Cookies! (which was just named Amazon’s no. 1 Cookbook of the Year), will be mingling with fans during the truck’s stops on December 7.

Stop times are subject to change, but here’s the schedule thus far:

  • Greenpoint (Driggs Ave. & Russell St., Brooklyn): 9 to 10 a.m. with Vaughn Vreeland
  • Dumbo (Front St. & Washington St., Brooklyn): 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with Vaughn Vreeland & Melissa Clark
  • Long Island City (Jackson Ave. & Pearson St., Queens): 1 to 2 p.m. with brand ambassadors

I haven’t seen the recipes in full yet, but the titles alone have me psyched. As a lifelong Hostess stan, I have high hopes for the hot-pink Snowballs. I’m also a lover of sweet-and-salty goodies (not to mention popcorn for dinner), so I can’t wait to find out what goes in the Popcorn Bucket number. The brownies also sound beyond promising—plus, I love a contrarian who brings brownies to a cookie party. And mortadella cookies? Wonders never cease.
